evidently not the first but
unbeknownst to us both
the last to be lured by
unfulfilled promises
figured you would skate
away, avoid, ignore
but the ice broke —
a shock to the system,
a shift in timelines,
flooded lungs,
resurfaces memories
allowing us to sink to depths
neither of us has reached
with another soul
