No one told me life would be this way
and when they did I pretended to understand.
But how does one take command of their life
while listening to others demands?
Don’t do this, don’t touch that!
They decided to lead me through life with fear.
Since their expectations don’t translate into my reality,
I chose to make it clear.
I’m allowed to make wrong decisions
and of course plenty of mistakes,
yet always making sure to give myself grace.
Because there is simply a feeling I cannot shake
I would rather pursue a dream close to my heart
than defer to those who never reached for theirs from the start.
