Season’s Greetings

Cloud covered skies give reprieve to
otherwise sweltering heat.
Sweat cascades down her back
like rivers merging into a waterfall.
There was a time she complained
of cold winter nights, cocooned
in quilts awaiting metamorphosis.

Chattering turned into groans
after months of urging the sun
to blanket the city in warmth.
Never anticipating an inferno,
she thought it comical that
we beg constantly for change
yet are never satisfied.
