Subconscious
You take my hand and lead me into the sea,
promising to be gentle but anxiety rushes over me.
I never took the time to learn how to swim,
but for you I'm willing to go out on any limb.
On my back I float, allowing merciful waves to take hold,
but what transpires next, I could not have foretold.
Surprisingly, panic does not take over as I begin to sink
hundreds of feet into the deep and I am on the brink,
of discovering that which has been hidden for generations.
Knowledge that could shake even the sturdiest foundations.
Just when I think I'll never see the sun again,
your arms envelope me and guide me back to the mundane.
On the shore we share a secret smile
with another test passed, it's time for the next trial.
