Uber™ Therapy

Earlier, I got a notification that I’ve taken 100 5-star Uber rides, this wasn’t shocking information considering I’m the perfect passenger. However, I am trying to figure out which drivers been messing my score up seeing as though I’m still stuck on 4.93… (I don’t know anyone else who cares this much about their uber rating.)

Today my driver was from Philadelphia, she spoke so quickly and passionately with the best accent. She immediately started telling me all about herself and her family and we had such a good ride because of it (when she would let me get a few words in.) We talked about how she wanted to move from Philadelphia, she had packed her stuff up and pulled her son out of school, but to her moving to New Jersey just didn’t feel right — like moving from one war zone to another. She decided she would move her family to Delaware

What caused her to make her final decision was sending her son to the barber shop and him seeing someone dead in a few blocks away from their home, a few blocks away from a school. She feared if she had sent him a few minutes earlier, he could have been caught in the crossfire. It’s crazy to sit back and think about desensitized we are to gun violence in this country. Someone murdered in broad daylight down the street from a school as kids are getting let out and that’s normal for a lot of people in these neighborhoods. We’re all just hoping we make it home safe and that our families do too but where can we find safety? Home? School? Church?

I wonder if things will ever change in our lifetime or will it all just continuously feel like it’s going down hill.
