emotional exhaustion

I don’t feel I have many people to talk to about what’s going on right now. Or people I want to talk to. I keep a lot of what I’m feeling bottled up. So this is a brain dump for my feelings and it might be all over the place but I’m tired. I’m exhausted actually. I couldn’t truly articulate it if I tried.

During a pandemic, which is already killing black people at a disproportionate rate, we still have to worry about being murdered by those that are paid to serve and protect us.

Emotionally, I am exhausted.

I can’t sleep. I’ve cried more than I have in months. There’s a lingering tightness in my chest.

I don’t care for pretty selfies right now or memes.

Now is not the time to be talking about “black on black crime.”

I want people to stop being contrarians for engagement and analytics.

I don’t care about people looting multi-million dollar corporations. Or what we “look like” to white people while fighting against injustice.

Please read the room! None of that matters right now. Right now people are fighting for their lives, their rights. Treated differently because of skin color alone.

I’m angry. frustrated. disappointed.

I wasn’t sure there was a way to become more isolated during a quarantine. I didn’t think I would have felt the need to.

If you’ve also felt this heavy weight on your shoulders and in your heart, please take step away from your phone and your computer. Disconnect. (And it sounds easy to say but it feels so hard to do right now because I want to know what’s happening.)

Let yourself feel your emotions, whether it’s anger at the injustices, sadness at the deaths, or disappointment in your friends for not doing their part in these situations.

Don’t keep it bottled up. What you’re feeling is valid.

I wish I had more positive things to say.

Right now, I pray for our safety and overall well-being.
