no oink for me!
People who cook and bake will understand this. Actually, probably all artists and creators. Like an artist unveiling a painting, I'm so excited to hear and see the reaction when I'm serving a treat up. I'll serve food and wait for people to eat before I even try it myself. My Granny still ain't tell me how she liked those coconut cupcakes and I'm not twiddling my thumbs about it. I done called her a bunch of different times today. Did 'ja eat yet? Does that speak to my greediness? Because I wouldn't been ate a couple...ha.
I made frostings today for tomorrow's creations. Learning what can I make ahead of time, though of course all cakes are made the day before. Lemon cream cheese icing, hm, a little feeling like something is missing but the good thing is many of these frosting can be forgiving -- it just takes a bunch of patience and mixing. But that brown sugar buttercream frosting I was talking about? Chef's freaking kiss. It's so yummy. I'm wondering what else I can put it on... biscuits and muffins perhaps.
Meant to mention this before, but I bring so many cakes to work yet there is a group of folks who cannot indulge in my treats. A few of my coworkers have diabetes and I'm not trying to hurt anyone. I was not necessarily seeing this as a business opportunity but a chance to give back to a few people who really look out for me. I made them banana muffins with honey. They came out so good! My mausseue condescendly touched my hand and told me "miss, you need to to do more research," as honey spikes blood-sugar. (When I tell you that hand touch and tap is really sticking with me. Ha! I'm cracking up, cause I know I'll be back and the side eye will be real.) My focus was just making something that tasted sweet but didn't add extra, processed sugar. I didn't see anything wrong with adding natural sweetner. I also didn't know it's important to not use any all-purpose flour. So, after I do more research I will to keep trying to make healthier, more inclusive treats.
Pretty sure I have an ear infection. I just want to sleep and do nothing, the pressure is nonstop and the pharmacy doesn't open until Tuesday. I'm in a good mood though, maybe it was the pizza and wings. I used to be such a pepperoni and bacon girl but I figure, I can enjoy the things I indulged in as long as I make some changes. I can't get rid of pizza! Tonight's order was extra cheese, mushrooms and spinach. So good! I can't have Pinky and Porky and be out here eating swine! I do be looking longingly, but I know better. Same with beef. Chicken has me in a chokehold, I swear, but maybe one day or at least if I have chicken or turkey in one meal, just veggies in the next.
Back to cooking, I was thinking I'd like to have romantic dinners in my apartment one day. Candles and all that. Something you would see in the movies. Do I really want to put on a show for my person? Yes and no. When I see recipes there are usually like steaks, lamb chops and all. Maybe my Dad's famous macaroni would make an appearance but I do consider, chile, maybe my romance looks difference. Could nachos be romantic? Is keeping it real sexy?Let me feed you a taco, boo. Not the authentic ones either. Probably make tacos this week actually, they've been on my mind. Sometimes, instead of shells, I just make stuffed peppers and tomatillo sauce. My brother and sister keep ordering "Shant-potle." I'll have to do that for them eventually though I've been limiting my rice intake and haven't had beans in so long. (Let me say this, she gonna tell me I could make these people black bean brownies...I'm not doing that shit!) And as I write I'm thinking further, gosh, I love to cook to my own tastes. Consideration may be the word of a lifetime.
My business cards came in. I like how they look a lot and things are feeling more real by the day. I believe, deeply.
I was suppose to be making an invoice and placcards for these two cakes with the allergy info.
Somehow started writing.
And it was nice.
Have a great weekend!
xoxo,
