Shopping lists and taking orders
I am a physical media person. I would rather real books than reading on the kindle I haven’t charged in months. I have a bunch of DVDs that I admit I don’t watch as much as I should but like what if the internet was gone tomorrow? I've been thinking of getting record player and there is this cute little record shop in town. I write my shopping lists on sticky notes and find them in bags I haven’t used in a while. Today's list includes: four large carrots, two blocks of full fat cream cheese, kombucha, coconut water and limes amongst other goodies. I started drinking coconut water before my trip, with all the iced lattes I drink, I do need the hyrdration. For years, I swore I didn't like it but now it's all I want to drink. I'm thinking I'll cut the limes, freeze them and add them to the coconut water like I do for tea. I just know that taste is gonna be yum!
Most of my groceries were for cakes. One of my coworkers had asked that I bake them a chocolate lava cake for their father's birthday. I thought she needed it this week but turns out she won't need it until the Monday after this one upcoming. Good news is she wanted to order a carrot cake so her and her friend could be "big backs," and who am I to judge? Coming right up girl! I cleaned my carrots then did my arm workout for the week by grating them. The baking process has been very meditative for me and is now beginning to be lucrative. How cool is that?! I'll have some business things to consider soon enough but for now I want to enjoy the process, the start. I'm full of creative ideas. There is a lemon cake with lemon frosting I want to make again, hopefully the cake is moist this time because I promise the taste was good. After my vacation, I also want to make a coconut cake with passion fruit curd. I've never even made a curd before but I want this cake to transport you to the islands via your taste buds.
One fulfilled cake order, one cooling down in the fridge waiting to be iced, and two more down the pipe. Your girl is working hard in her cute little polka dot apron, love that! I have these light pink cake boxes and I'd like to do something to stamp them but sheesh I don't even have a name or logo in mind. Curious what'll come to mind...
The way I was flipping this damn phone open and closed this morning because I didn't want to oversleep. I woke up before the sun rose and tossed and turned and woke up every 20 minutes until 7:54AM, promised myself 5 minutes and somehow woke up at 8:24AM. And still was perfectly on time to the deserted office. I got a lot done and had such a lovely lunch. I love being a regular somewhere. Okay, actually, it can be kind of embarassing. Like I walked into this cafe I love and the man yelled "make the iced caramel latte with the coconut milk" Sir, first of all you didn't have to expose me in front of the whole shop... This is only funny in hindsight because I should have just laughed it off but I was irked! Today I went to another local spot and owner goes, "Hey Ashanti, you just want the french fries today?" Actually no! Add the chicken burger and that smoked honey mustard sauce. I sat in the sun, dipped my burger and fries in that sauce and lived my best life. One of those meals that make you dance. Very joyous! When I learn to make that sauce I'm going to pour it on everything.
My brother is turning 16 on the 27th and my sister is turning 14 on the 25th. So crazy for me to watch the children I helped raise grow into teens and then, in time, adults. We don't see each other as often as we used to and I miss them like crazy. It's so hard to talk to teens but my friend told me all you have to do is check in, don't expect too much but they'll always remember that you cared about what was going on. So that's what I've been doing. Even if it's a one minute phone call. And you know what I used to hate talking on the phone and now, with the right person when the conversation and the chisme is flowing, I enjoy it. When the tea is hot, there is nothing better!
No plans this weekend besides resting and maybe a little picnic.
I want to allow myself to take it easy.
xoxo,
Ashanti
